Solution Architecture takes the more abstract and high-level Enterprise Architecture (EA) and develops technical solutions that deliver the objectives defined in the EA.
The solution architecture acts as a bridge to the EA. The EA should articulate the organization’s plan in regards to IT.
This approach has been used to build out a Department-wide financial and resource management architecture after the formation of the Department of Homeland Security, and to develop an Enterprise Case and Content Management platform for the Department of Labor. The approach looks at all layers of the architecture. The solution architecture ties the EA to IT investments and ultimately to IT projects. Once the IT project is implemented, the solution architecture is used to measure performance into the operations phase to ensure they continue to deliver the needs of the EA.
